Dr Farah Hasan (second from left) has completed her PhD degree at Theology Faculty, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and was awarded summa cum laude for both her cumulative thesis and her disputation. Her thesis, entitled Entangled Islam: Islam of the 21st Century, was composed of 9 textual contributions (5 articles, 3 book contributions and 1 synopsis), means significant progress in research on integration and migration on both the theoretical and empirical level.
Farah Hasan was able to develop a new way of conceptualising Muslimness by using the theory of Epistemic Entanglements. On the empirical level, she engaged in six different empirical studies, using the approach of lived religion. These studies involve phenomena like halal dating, posting Islam-related lifestyle content on Instagram, debating the morality of luxury headscarves, dealing with the afterlife, and coercion into marriage in some Muslim communities.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Hasan and are delighted with the inspiring and motivating potential of her academic work.
